Euljiro Nogari Alley: Seoul’s Famous Street Beer Alley Guide

Euljiro Nogari Alley is where Seoul goes for a cheap, loud, happy night out. After about 6 p.m., the lanes near Euljiro 3-ga Station fill with plastic tables, office workers loosen their ties, students crowd in, and everyone orders the same thing: cold draft beer and nogari, small dried pollock grilled and dipped in spicy sauce.

This guide covers the alley’s story, what to order, where it is and how to enjoy it like a local. For daytime stops nearby, see our guide to trendy Seoul cafes and restaurants.

A Short History of Euljiro Nogari Alley

The alley, known in Korean as Nogari Golmok, grew up to serve workers from Euljiro’s printing shops and factories. Its anchor was Eulji OB Bear, a pub that opened in 1980 and became known for well-kept draft beer and cheap nogari with homemade red pepper sauce. Over the years more pubs joined, and big operators such as Manseon Hof now set out hundreds of outdoor seats. In 2022 Eulji OB Bear was forced out by redevelopment; it reopened nearby in 2024, close to Exits 9 and 10 of Euljiro 3-ga Station.

What to Order

  • Draft beer (saengmaekju) – the essential; order a few rounds with friends.
  • Nogari – dried young pollock, grilled until crisp, torn into strips and dipped in gochujang-mayo or chili sauce. Inexpensive and perfect with beer.
  • Golbaengi muchim – spicy sea snail salad with noodles, an Euljiro classic.
  • Dried squid, sausages and fried chicken – depending on the pub.

Why Young Koreans Love It

Euljiro Nogari Alley is the opposite of a polished rooftop bar. It is cheap, social and full of energy, and it feels like an older Seoul that is slowly disappearing to redevelopment. That mix of nostalgia and noise is exactly why it remains a favorite of the “Hipjiro” generation.
