Andong Hahoe Village in Autumn: Best Trip from Seoul 2026

Andong Hahoe Village in autumn is Korea at its most timeless: 600-year-old tile-roofed and thatched houses wrapped in an S-curve of the Nakdong River, persimmons glowing orange on bare branches, and the pine grove of Mansongjeong turning golden in the low October sun. This UNESCO World Heritage village is a fast KTX-Eum ride from Seoul, so it works as a long day trip or, even better, a relaxed one-night stay in a hanok guesthouse. Here is how to plan it in autumn 2026, including trains, costs, an itinerary, nearby sights and where to eat.

Why Visit Andong Hahoe Village in Autumn

Hahoe (河回, “river turning around”) is a living clan village of the Pungsan Ryu family, founded in the Joseon era and listed by UNESCO in 2010 together with Yangdong Village as the “Historic Villages of Korea”. Autumn is the best season for three reasons:

  • Colors: According to the Korea Tourism Organization’s 2026 foliage map, leaves in the Gyeongsang region peak in early to mid-November. From mid-October the village already shows golden rice fields, ripening persimmons and red ivy on earthen walls.
  • Harvest scenes: In October and November villagers hang gotgam (persimmons) to dry under the eaves, one of the most photographed autumn sights in Korea.
  • Comfortable weather: Daytime highs are around 15–20°C, ideal for walking the riverside and climbing to the Buyongdae cliff viewpoint.

The Andong International Mask Dance Festival is held every year in early autumn (late September to early October). If you miss it, the regular Hahoe Byeolsingut Tallori mask dance performances in the village keep the tradition alive; check the schedule at the tourist office before you go.

How to Get to Andong Hahoe Village from Seoul

  1. KTX-Eum (fastest): Cheongnyangni Station → Andong Station on the Jungang Line, about 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours. Since the line upgrade in December 2024 there are about 9 trains each way per day (plus a daily Seoul Station service). Standard fare is roughly ₩26,000–27,000 one way; check the Korail website or Korail Talk app for the exact fare and book early on autumn weekends.
  2. Express bus (cheaper): Dong Seoul or Seoul Express Bus Terminal → Andong Terminal, about 2 hours 50 minutes.
  3. To the village: Andong Bus Terminal stands right next to Andong Station. Take city bus 210 (about 13 trips a day, 06:30–18:20, roughly 50–65 minutes) to the Hahoe Village ticket office, buy your ticket, and ride the free shuttle (about 5 minutes) into the village. Some 210 buses continue to Byeongsanseowon. A taxi from the station takes about 30 minutes.
